The weather in Sidmouth has been truly fantastic and the town really is in bloom. The grass is a lustrous green and the sea a wonderfully clear turquoise blue, the Byes has become a tranquil oasis full of wildlife from chirping birds to families of ducks and even a busy Otter taking up residency! Sidmouth In Bloom are currently planting out the sunken beds in Connaught Gardens, while observing social distancing. The town is beginning to cautiously come to life again with the reopening of golf & tennis clubs, fish & chip shops as well as one or two other takeaways, it’s even possible to get an ice cream on the beach if you don’t mind a substantial socially distanced queue!
We’re not quite ready for hospitality to reopen just yet, but we are beginning to be able to anticipate life returning to a ‘new normal’. Recently the government announced the first cautious steps to the easing of lockdown, with a ‘roadmap’ of the stages to follow, including hospitality.
We have been following government advice closely and although the lockdown is beginning to ease we want to remain cautious yet optimistic as the safety of our guests is of paramount importance to us. We therefore anticipate the reopening of our lovely Hotel on AUGUST 1ST and are taking bookings from this date through to the end of October and then again from the beginning of March 2021 to the end of October 2021.
We have been shut for far longer than we had hoped or expected and so myself, my wonderful partner, Bev and all the fantastic staff here at the Mount Pleasant are itching to get back to work and welcome you back to Sidmouth. We are closely following government guidelines and are working hard to ensure all necessary precautions are in place when we do reopen. There will be new measures put in place to ensure our guests safety which will include social distancing, a close watch on personal hygiene with sanitary products available throughout the hotel, a new and even more thorough deep cleaning process as well as the likelihood of set dining times for both breakfast and dinner to ensure there is more than adequate space between tables.
The garden has been my own personal sanctuary during the past few months and we are doing our best to make it as inviting as possible and keeping our fingers crossed the weather will remain as nice so that our guests can enjoy it. We have a few additional seating areas we hope to see being taken advantage of come August! The perfect place for a refreshing G&T.
We are confident of a return to happier times albeit perhaps set to a new and slightly strange at first ‘new normal’. As both a business and a family we have, as I’m sure you can appreciate, gone through a worrying and difficult time and we are now able to look forward with optimism. We have however remained happy and most importantly healthy and so our thoughts go out to those who have lost loved ones or been kept apart from loved ones and family members through such a trying time.
We would like to extend our thanks to the key and essential workers who have kept the town and country running from vital NHS workers in the form of doctors, nurses, cleaners and administrative staff to public transport workers, delivery drivers, postal workers and retail workers as well as many more I have no doubt missed.
inally I would also like to thank our fantastic guests for your continued support, we would like to wish you all the very best for you and your families and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Mount Pleasant Hotel as soon as is safely possible.
We may even have got the hidden ‘Mount Pleasant Fountain’ working again! If you do have an existing booking for June or July please do get in touch to rearrange your stay.
